Driver Education (Classroom)
The purpose of this course is to give students an introduction to basic Pennsylvania traffic laws, fundamentals of driving, consequenses of alcohol and driving, basic car maintenance, emergency situations, and an overview of insurances available.
The two texts (provided by the teacher) used in class are:
1) PA Drivers Manual
2) Responsible Driving
Students are graded on classwork, homework assignments, two projects, and tests. Students will actively participate in power point presentations and interactive DVD's. Participation in discussions, debates, and class-assigned readings are very important.
Driver Education (Behind-the-Wheel)
The Behind-the-Wheel portion of the Driver Education course is offered to give student drivers a chance to utilize the necessary skills they learned in the classroom portion of Driver's Education to become a safe driver in "real world" experiences. Student drivers will gain valuable knowledge and fist-hand experience as both Mr. Kolbe and Mr. Vroman will take students on the road for a total of 6 hours.
Both Mr. Kolbe
and Mr. Vroman remove student drivers from their study hall (as to not interfere with other academic subjects) to go driving. The requirements for the Behind-the-Wheel portion are as follows:
1) Must have a valid Learner's Permit or Driver's License.
2) Passed the classroom portion of Driver Education.
