GUIDANCE NEWS

 

Summer experience for Juniors:  The United Electric Cooperative, Inc. is sponsoring area students to participate in the National Rural Elective Youth Tour to Washington, D.C. This is an all-expenses paid, week-long trip that encompasses over 1,800 high school students from all over the country. Student must be a Junior, display leadership qualities, strong character and sound moral principles, and his/her parent/guardian must be a member of the United Electric Cooperative, Inc. (ie.,they must have an active electric account). Applications available in the Counseling Office. Application must be returned by Friday, March 1, 2019.

 

The Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Sciences (PGSS), an affiliate of the National Conference of Governor’s Schools, is a 5-week summer residential program for talented high school students of science and mathematics, which emphasizes cooperative learning and hands-on laboratory research. Program is held at Carnegie Mellon University. There is no cost for selected students. Completed applications must be emailed per instructions on the website http://sciences.pa-gov-schools.org no later than January 31, 2019.  Applications emailed after this date and time will be disqualified.

 

Seniors:  Early application deadline for Penn State is November 1, 2018. Seniors wanting an admissions decision by December 24, 2018 must have their completed application turned in by this deadline.

 

Are you interested in the Business, Health Care, or Agriculture fields? Students in Grades 10 and 11 can apply for a four week summer residential learning experience though Iacocca Global Entrepreneurship Intensive for high school students. Summer experiences are held at Lehigh University, The University of Pittsburgh, and The Pennsylvania State University. For more information visit: global.lehigh.edu/Iacocca.
