Types of questions that good readers ask while they read.

IN THE BOOK QUESTIONS:

-"Right There" Question:  A question whose answer is right in the text.  You can usually point to a "right there" question with your finger.

-"Think and Search" Question:  A Question whose answer is in the text, but the reader must pull from various parts of the text.

IN MY HEAD QUESTIONS:

-"Author & Me" Question:  A question whose answer is NOT in the text.  The reader must use information provided in the text AND his or her knowledge to formulate an answer.

-"On My Own" Question:  A question whose answer is NOT in the text.  The reader does not have to have read the text to answer the question (but reading the text may help).

MINDSET...

A good, short article about how our brains work and how we learn...http://www.edweek.org/tm/articles/2011/12/20/tln_pillars.html?tkn=YZYFOnxnPTGM3EBT%2FXvxA0WCUTWL4QKcfV%2FY&cmp=ENL-TU-NEWS1

Mindset Pledge

Today I will have a growthmindset. My brain is like a muscle. Working it harder will make me smarter. Ican make myself smarter through EFFORT. When something is hard to understand, that is when I have an opportunity to learn. I must work hard in order to get smarter.  I will enjoy challenges, for they make mesmarter.  When I encounter challenges, Iwill focus on effort and strategies, not on worrying how smart or dumb I appear.Even when I don't feel like giving my best, I will, without excuses, because Iam worth it!

Based on the research of Dr. Carol Dweck, Stanford University.  I highly encourage you to read her book "Mindset," available at Amazon.com
