Varsity defeated by Clearfield, 45-36
 
1/10/2012 - The Mountie varsity basketball team dipped to 1-10 with a 45-36 loss against visiting Clearfield on Jan. 10. P-O was led by Cole Curtis, who scored 17 points. Taylor Golemboski had seven points in the game and Aaron McKnight grabbed seven rebounds.
 
In the junior varsity game, P-O came away with a 32-21 victory. Matt Carpin scored 12 points, recorded five assists and had four steals. Andrew Refier scored eight points and pulled down five rebounds. The junior varsity's record is 3-6.
 
Junior high team moves above .500 mark
 
1/10/2012 - The Philipsburg-Osceola Mountie junior high basketball team improved to 4-3 on Jan. 10 with a 30-27, come-from-behind victory over visiting Clearfield. Luis Jones paced the Mounties with 10 points, four rebounds and two steals. Tanner Lamb score eight points and pulled down six rebounds, while fellow freshman Trentin Herrington connected on 3-of-5 shots for eight points. Herrington also dished out three assists and made three steals. The Mounties were down 22-18 after three quarter, but fueled by a three-pointer from Jones and 2-of-3 free throws by Herrington, the Mounties were able to outpoint Clearfield 12-5 in the final frame to set the final at 30-27.
 
In the 7th/8th-grade game, the Mounties were defeated by the Bisons, 43-10. P-O committed 30 turnovers in the loss. Isaac Knepp led the Mounties in scoring with eight points. Nick Conklin scored the only other bucket for P-O.
 
 
P-O varsity picks up first win of the season

12/23/2011 - The Philipsburg-Osceola Mountie varsity basketball team picked up its first victory of the 2011-12 campaign on Dec. 23 with a 51-40 home victory over Juniata. Eric Nartatez led the Mounties in scoring with 15 points. He hit on 6-of-16 shots, including 3-of-8 from behind the arc, and also pulled down three rebounds, recorded four steals and dished out three assists.  Taylor Golemboski was a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line and was 3-of-5 from the field to account for his 10 points. He also pulled down nine rebounds. Cole Curtis scored nine points for P-O. Robbie Smith finished the game with seven points and Aaron McKnight added six. With the victory, P-O improved to 1-4 on the season.
 
 
Maurer, Mason score 13 each in junior varsity victory
12/23/2011 - Philipsburg-Osceola Mountie sophomores Collin Maurer and Aaron Mason each torched the net for 13 points during a 40-12 blowout win over Juniata in junior varsity action on Dec. 23. To go along with his 13 points, Mason also dished out four assists and made seven steals. Maurer recorded three assists in the game. Curtis Matsko provided the Mounties with a force underneath the basket. Matsko scored six points, but also had eight rebounds and four steals. Andrew Reifer netted eight points and pulled down two rebounds. With the victory, the Mountie junior varsity program improved to 2-3.
 
 
Ninth graders improve to 3-1 with victory over Juniata
12/23/2011 - The Philipsburg-Osceola junior high basketball team upped its record to 3-1 on Dec. 23 with a 34-23 home victory over Juniata. The Mounties held a 10-6 lead after the first quarter and a 16-12 lead at halftime. P-O then outpointed Juniata 18-11 in the second half to seal the victory. Luis Jones led the Mounties with 12 points on 4-of-12 shooting. He also pulled down five rebounds, had two assists and five steals. Tanner Lamb scored 10 points for the Mounties, to go along with seven rebounds and two steals. Ben Johnson scored four points and had three rebounds.
 
 
Seventh-, eighth-graders lose to Juniata, 27-8

12/23/2011 - The offense for the Philipsburg-Osceola seventh- and eighth-grade basketball team just couldn't get going in a 27-8 home loss to Juniata on Dec. 23. The Mounties scored just two points in the first quarter and only six more the rest of the way. Caleb Belinda led P-O on the stat sheet with four points, three rebounds and two steals. Darren Foster and Josiah Davis each scored a basket for the Mounties. Foster also pulled down three rebounds. The Mountie seventh- and eighth-grade team is now 0-4 on the season.
 
 
Mountie varsity defeated by Tyrone, 62-31
12/22/2011 - Despite hot three-point shooting from senior Robbie Smith, the Philipsburg-Osceola senior high basketball team fell to visiting Tyrone, 62-31, on Dec. 22. Smith connected on 3-of-5 shot attempts from beyond the arc, including three in a row in the third quarter; but it wasn't enough to overcome a 37-6 halftime deficit. Smith finished the game with a team-high 13 points. He also pulled down five rebounds and recorded a steal. Taylor Golemboski scored seven points for the Mounties and pulled down six rebounds (two offensive boards) and had four steals. Matt Carpin scored five points for the Mounties and Cole Curtis contributed with three points and six rebounds. The Mounties dropped to 0-4 on the season.
 
Tyrone JV defeats P-O, 43-27
12/22/2011 - The visiting Golden Eagle junior varsity basketball team defeated the Mounties 43-37 on Dec. 22. Both team played even ball through the first half and the Mounties held a 1-point lead after two quarters; however, Tyrone was able to put together an 18-9 third quarter to help seal the victory. Collin Maurer led P-O in scoring with 12 points. Matt Carpin added 10 points, five rebounds and three assists. Curtis Matsko scored eight points for P-O, while Andrew Reifer scored four points and pulled down five rebounds. He also recorded four blocked shots. With the loss, the Mountie junior varsity team dropped to 1-4 on the season.
 
Ninth-graders improve to 2-1 with 34-25 victory
 
12/19/2011 - The Philipsburg-Osceola junior high basketball team improved to 2-1 after a 34-25 home win over Bellefonte. P-O pushed to a 13-5 advantage after the first quarter and built a 21-12 lead at the break. P-O allowed just 13 second half points, while scoring 13 over those final two frames to set the final score at 34-25. Tanner Lamb set the pace for the Mounties with 16 points on 5-0f-6 field goals from the floor and 6-of-10 from the free throw line. Lamb also had nine rebounds, an assist, two steals and a blocked shot. Trentin Herrington scored 11 points, had five steals and pulled down four rebounds. Ben Johnson added five points for P-O.
 
7th/8th graders defeated by Bellefonte, 20-11
 
12/19/2011 - The Philipsburg-Osceola 7th and 8th grade basketball team were defeated at the hands of Bellefonte, 20-11, on Dec. 19 in the Mounties' home gymnasium. Bellefonte opened the game on a 6-2 run in the first quarter and duplicated the first five minutes in the second quarter to take a 12-4 lead into halftime. Although P-O outpointed the Red Raiders 3-2 in the third, the lead was too much to overcome. Caleb Belinda led P-O in scoring with five points. He also pulled down seven rebounds. Isaac Knepp had three points for the Mounties, and Josiah Davis had two points.
 
Mountie Varsity team defeated by DuBois, 54-37
 
12/16/2011 - Despite 16 points from Eric Nartatez and 12 points by Cole Curtis, the Mountie varsity team was defeated by DuBois, 54-37, at home on Dec. 16. Nartatez was 6-of-11 from the field and 2-of-six from beyond the arc. He also recorded a rebound, two assists and four steals. Curtis was 4-of-7 from the field and 4-of-5 from the charity stripe. He also had five rebounds and an assist. Matt Carpin had four points for P-O, as well as two rebounds, an assist and a blocked shot.
 
Junior Varsity falls to DuBois, 36-33
 
12/16/2011 - The P-O junior varsity bsaketball team was defeated at home on Dec. 16 against DuBois. P-O was unable to erase the 13-3 first-quarter lead of the Beavers, eventually falling, 36-33. Matt Carpin led P-O in scoring with 13 points. he also had a rebound, an assist, three steals and two blocked shots. Aaron Mason and Curtis Matsko contributed with seven points each.
 
Junior High team upended by Golden Eagles, 33-17
 
12/13/2011 - A slow start by the Mountie junior high team led to a 33-17 defeat at home on Dec. 13. P-O scored two points in the first quarter, but didn't reach the scoreboard in the second frame. Meanwhile, Tyrone posted 19 first-half points. P-O regrouped in the second half, outpointing Tyrone 15-14, but the lead was too great to overcome. Tanner Lamb led P-O in scoring with 11 points. He also recorded four rebounds, three steals and a blocked shot. Trentin Herrington scored three points and had two steals.
 
7th/8th graders defeated by Tyrone, 13-8
 
12/13/2011 - The Philipsburg-Osceola Mountie 7th- and 8th-grade basketball team was defeated at home at the hand of Tyrone, 13-8. The Mounties were held scoreless in the first quarter, but used strong defense in the second quarter to tie the score at 4-4 at the halftime break. In the third quarter, Tyrone opened on 1 7-2 run. Both teams scored a bucket in the fourth quarter to set the final score at 13-8. Caleb Belinda led P-O inm scoring with three points. He also recorded six steals. Darren Foster scored two points, pulled down five rebounds and recorded a steal. Tyler Singer scored two points and had two rebounds.

P-O varsity defeated by Clarion, 60-46
 
12/12/2011 - The Philipsburg-Osceola Mountie varsity basketball team was defeated by the Clarion Bobcats, 60-46, in the home opener. Clarion opened the game with a 24-8 first-quarter run, but the Mounties responded with a 19-5 run in the second quarter to pull within two, 29-27, at halftime. The Mounties were the victims of hot, three-point shooting in the third quarter and couldn't make up the points in the fourth. Cole Curtis led P-O in scoring with 17 points. He also had seven rebounds (3 offensive), a steal, an assist and a blocked shot. Point guard Eric Nartatez was 5-of--9 from the field for 13 points. He also had seven assists, three steals and two rebounds. Taylor Golemboski scored five points and had four rebounds, three of which were on the offensive boards. He also had an assist, a steal and a blocked shot. Aaron McKnight scored five points in the game. he also pulled down three rebounds and dished out two assists. The Mounties are 0-2 on the season and are scheduled to play at home against DuBois on Friday. The Dec. 13 home game against Tyrone was postponed due to the Eagles' success in the state football playoffs.
 
Junior varsity defeats Clarion, 32-31
 
12/12/2011 - The P-O junior varsity basketball team picked up its first victory of the season with a 32-31 win over Clarion. The teams played to a 6-6 tie in the first quarter before the Mountiesw went on an 11-6 run to take a 17-12 lead into the
 half-time locer room. Clarion mounted a comeback with a strong, 7-3
third-quarter advantage; however, P-O responded with a 12-point fourth
quarter and claimed the victory by a single point. Andrew Reifer had six points,
12 rebounds, three steals, an assist and a blocked shot to lead the Mounties.
Curtis Matsko added six points and eight rebounds and Colin Maurer contributed
with six points, six rebounds and three assists. Aaron Mason had five points, two rebounds and two steals. Matt Carpin scored four points, had two rebounds, three assists and two steals. Eric Nartatez came off the bench to score five points.
He also had a steal. The junior varsity team is 1-1 on the season.
 
P-O Mounties fall in season opener, 70-36
 
12/10/2011 - The Philipsburg-Osceola Mountie varsity basketball team ran
 into a buzzsaw in Central Mountain in its season opener, and fell 70-36. The
Wildcats opened the game on a 20-6 first-quarter run, and continued to outscore
the Mounties in the next three quarters. Cole Curtis and Taylor Golemboski led
the Mounties in scoring, each with 11. Eric Nartatez added six points and
Matt Carpin contributed four points off the bench.
 
Junior varsity toppled by Central Mountain, 33-18
 
12/10/2011 - The P-O junior varsity basketball team was defeated 33-18 in its inaugural game of the season. Curtis Matsko led the Mounties in scoring with eight points. Aaron Mason and Colin Maurer each had four points. Andrew Reifer also scored a hoop.
 
Ninth-grade team defeats Wildcats, 24-16
 
12/10/2011 - The Philipsburg-Osceola Junior High ninth grade basketball team opened the season with a 24-16 win at Central Mountain. Tanner Lamb and Louis Jones eached pulled down nine rebouds. Lamb scored five points in the game and Jones scored four. Point guard Trentin Herrington scored six points on 3-of-9 shooting. He also had three rebounds and two steals. Ben Johnson scored five points for P-O, and had six rebounds and a blocked shot.
 
 
Seventh-/eighth-graders fall to Central Mountain, 41-21
 
12/10/2011 - The Philipsburg-Osceola Junior High School 7th and 8th grade basketball team was defeated by Central Mountain 41-21. Caleb Belinda led the young Mounties in scoring with 10 points. He also had four steals and three rebounds. Isaac Knepp and Nick Conklin each pulled down seven rebounds in the game. Knepp added four steals and four points and Conklin added six points.

11/17/2011 - Conditioning comes to a close. Practice officially begins tomorrow. The senior high group starts the pre-season tomorrow with a 6 p.m. practice time at
the P-O high school gymnasium. The junior high squad gets under way at 2:50 p.m. tomorrow. Pictured above is the junior high guys hustling on a sprint, directed by coach Whitehead, during the group's final conditioning workout.

11/11/2011 - CONDITIONING BEGINS!
Head coach Dave McKnight and the staff began taking the boys through pre-season conditioning drills today. These conditioning drills continue through Thursday, Nov. 17, leading into the team's first official practice, which is scheduled from 6-8 p.m. on
Friday, Nov. 18 at the Philipsburg-Osceola Area High School gymnasium.
