Junior High students have 'Great First Day' of school!!!

There are talkers. There are doers. And there are silent directors in the"Communication Breakdown" game Junior High students played on their first day of school.
When everyone helps each other, the directors show the talkers how to communicate to the doers, and a task is accomplished. But it takes everyone. And sometimes, as the game goes, communication just breaks down.
After completing the game, teachers encouraged students to talk about what happened: how well did they work together? What could they have done differently to improve communications? What were some positives of the game?
The interactive game was one of more than a dozen team-building activities during the third annual Great First Day of School at Project 70. The day was divided in two parts with the morning activities reserved for flex classes and the afternoon events designed for the Junior High's four teams.
The flex activities focused on cooperation. The interaction will help students as they participate in regular class discussions as part of the district's Olweus Bullying Prevention program. Teachers also took the opportunity to introduce themselves to the incoming class and let students know they want to help them with any frustration or problem: "That's what we are here for," math teacher Jackie Mills said.
