The dictionary defines "power" as the ability to perform effectively.  The program's goal is to develop and encourage the abilities of our students to perform effectively in mathematics in school, in real-world situations, and eventually in their chosen careers. 

 

     The staff includes one professional and 5 instructional assistants:

                   Mrs. Mary Beth Eyet - Power Math Coordinator

 

     Originally, students enrolled in the Power Math program at the elementary level participated in a weekly small-group lesson with the math instructor and received daily help in math class from the math assistant.  For the last several years, the math instructor has taught a weekly lesson to the entire class in rooms where there are students enrolled in the program.  Students are no longer "pulled out" for a lesson.  This format allows for large group instruction, flexible grouping of students, and team teaching.  The teaching assistant helps each enrolled student daily during math class.  For more information about the Power Math program at the Junior High level, please contact the school office or guidance office there.

 

     As well as providing assistance in classrooms, the staff develops games and activities at the request of the teaching staff and in response to needs identified by the PSSA and other student assessments.  An extensive library of resource books, games, and manipulatives is available to elementary teachers.  The Power Math coordinator participates in staff trainings and in the development of the math curriculum.  The Power Math staff also organizes the annual Challenge 24 District Tournament.
