Apprenticeship Opportunity:  Local 520 Plumbers, Pipefitters, HVAC/R Service Techs is offering a tuition-free training, Earn While You Learn program. Pay starting at $18.76 per hour with healthcare and retirement benefits provided from day one. Requirements: 18 years of age or a high school senior who will be 18 at graduation, valid driver’s license, ability to pass a drug test, high school diploma, GED, or a letter of intent to graduate with the date from your school. Penn State Summer Camps:

Information on the Science-U, Summer Science Camps for students in Grades 9-11 is now available in the Counseling Office. There are 11 different camps running in June and July; they include both day camps and resident camps. Merit-Based STEM Scholarships are available to pay for camps for girls in Centre County. “Make it Matter Scholarships” to pay for the camps are also available.

 

 

National Rural Electric Youth Tour to Washington, D.C.: An all-expenses-paid, week-long trip for a current high school junior who display leadership qualities, strong character and sound moral principles. Student’s parents/guardians must be a member of the United Electric Cooperative, Inc. (have an active electric account). More information in the Counseling Office.

 

Pennsylvania Free Enterprise Week:  Week-long summer economics education program open to high school sophomores and juniors in Pennsylvania. Program helps develop communication, leadership, time management, problem solving and team building skills. Application and more information at www.pfew.org or in the Counseling Office.

 

Summer Educational Opportunity: Interested in Business, Health Care or Agriculture? Lehigh University will be hosting the Iacocca Global Entrepreneurship Intensive program, The University of Pittsburgh will be hosting the Health Career Scholars Academy program, and Penn State will be hosting the Pennsylvania School of Excellence in Agricultural Sciences program. Each is a 4-week residential learning experiences for high school students. Application deadline is Feb. 19, 2020. Interested in becoming a lineworker or substation electrician? FirstEnergy’s Power Systems Institute program is holding information sessions at Westmoreland County Community College on November 16 and Pennsylvania Highlands Community College on November 2 for their fall 2020 program. Week long summer camps:

Keystone Boys State:  Open to any male student who has completed their junior year and resides in PA. Local Legion posts will sponsor the students to attend. The camp is an educational workshop for high school student leaders.

State Police Youth Week: Open to any male or female student who is 15-17 years old and resides in PA. The student should be in good health and physically fit. The camp is run like a boot camp to introduce students interested in law enforcement or a branch of the armed forces. Local Legion posts will sponsor student to attend.
